Holly Hunter is a well-known American actor as well as producer and director. She has been praised for movies like Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles and The Incredibles. The actress won numerous awards, including an Oscar for the film Piano. Actresses have a long career of involvement in Broadway, Off-Broadway and other productions. Enthusiastic about acting from the time she was in school, she portrayed Helen Keller in a play during the 5th grade. The mumps caused her to lose hearing in one her ear canals, but that did not stop her from pursuing her dream. As a young woman she studied drama in college before moving into New York City from Pittsburgh so that she could follow her dreams. Hunter met Beth Henley by chance in an lift. Together, they wrote Broadway Crimes of the Heart. It was Hunter's acting debut. As she settled in Los Angeles, she began looking for roles in films. The role she was offered came as an actress supporting the leading character Swing Shift. In the years since, she has been in many shows and TV films in a long career that spans more than three decades. Holly Hunter was awarded a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star as well as the Women in Film Lucy Award.
